New Years Resolutions For Your Home

Updated: Sep 22, 2020

Whether you're the type of person to have New Year's resolutions or not, the New Year is a perfect time to give the interior of your home a little extra attention and to create conscious good home habits. Here are three steps to giving your home a fresh start to ring in the new year.

1. Declutter

What do you really need and use? Do you find yourself sifting through drawers and closets not finding what you're looking for because you have so much stuff? Are you constantly losing things and then finding them underneath something else? Make a change, it will be so worthwhile. Start in the area that you have the most challenges with. Is it your bedroom closet? Your pantry? When you tackle the area that gives you the most frustration, you'll be inspired to continue when you can suddenly find exactly what you need because everything you don't need is out of your way.

2. Organize

Once you've pin pointed the items you need and the ones that you can live without, group like items together BEFORE buying storage containers. Yes, before. While it may seem easier to purchase bins and shelving before you start organizing so you can immediately start filling and stacking, it's actually much more effective to group like items and then decide the best way to store them and where they should go. Do this and you'll save yourself time and money.

3. Rearrange your furniture

Now that you've gotten rid of unwanted items and organized what you've decided to keep, you may have ended up with furniture that's no longer necessary or functional. Not sure what do do with it? In the Milwaukee Metro area, organizations such as The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative will pick up furniture donations right from your home. Replacing and rearranging furniture can not only freshen up the look of your home, but it can also maximize your space.
